Why Amsterdam is leading the sustainable fashion biz

Once you are in Holland it’s impossible not to notice the care to the environment which both government and population it has. People privilege sustainable transportation and the country it’s one of the firsts in Europe in term of recycling. Furthermore, you can always find second-hand shops and vegan restaurants all over the city. 

The last decade has seen an unprecedented increase in pollution and waste production. Governments started to face the problem, with north-European countries that leading this field, so, how Amsterdam is leading the sustainable fashion biz?

1 Leaders in Textile recycling

Our guard-robes are full of clothes that we don’t use, those, once trashed, are perfect to be recycled. Leader for that is Wieland Textiles, a company with a long story. Born after the second war it started to grow very fast during the ’80, to become a leader in the 21 century. Their major source of income comes from second-hand regenerated clothes, sold abroad. 

2 Dutch sustainable fashion week

Taking place from the 4th of October until the 13th is not a fashion week like the other. Aimed at a female audience, offers a wide program, with speeches and workshops. Green Award Talent Award Show, Dutch design show and Talking Trash show the main talks of the fashion week. 

3 Fashion for Good museum

The fashion for good museum, located in central Amsterdam, is the first museum dedicated to sustainable clothing innovation. Main feature of the museum the innovation platform: a virtual place that connects innovators with brands and retailers. The areas of interest are several including, Raw Material, Manufacturing, Retail, Traceability and more. With partners such as Galeries Lafayette, Stella McCartney, and Zalando it represents the barycenter of the modern fashion. 

4 The capital of fashion activism

Big changes need to be driven by big personalities. RE LOVE foundation is the first creative agency that stimulates less consumption, promoting positive solutions for the production of new dresses. Mostly oriented to the female world, is a unique reality that needs to be supported.

5 A wide ranges of cool brands

With 500 million revenue, denim is driving the fashion industry, and the Giant G-Star is the most representative. At G-Star, they choose sustainable and recycled garments as well as ethical partners. Unrecorded it realizes men/womenswear using 100% organic cotton GOTS certified. They take inspiration from Patagonia, with the purpose to apply to urban apparel what they do for outdoor apparel. Episode, is a Dutch chain with 2 shops in the capital. It offers high-quality second-hand apparel, perfect for those who like to have a hipster and alternative look. 

Besides those examples, all the brands take seriously ecology and work conditions, Scotch and Soda, Patta, for instance, are other worthy realities based in Amsterdam.

I imply, I do know it was my choice to read, however I actually thought youd have something attention-grabbing to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about one thing that you could possibly repair if you werent too busy searching for attention.
